A Guide to Healthcare in Taiwan for Expats

Taiwan's National Health Insurance (NHI) is world-famous for a reason: it's affordable, efficient, and high-quality. But how do you access it as a foreigner?

1. What is the NHI?

It's a mandatory social insurance. Once you have an ARC, you are required to join. The cost is usually around NT$ 826 - NT$ 2,000 / month, deducted from your salary.

2. Seeing a Doctor

You don't need a referral in Taiwan. You can walk into any clinic ("Zhen Suo") or hospital. Clinics are great for colds, flu, or minor injuries. Wait time is short.

"Yes, your NHI card covers acupuncture and herbal medicine!"

English-Speaking Doctors

Most doctors in Taiwan speak some English, but hospitals like Taiwan Adventist Hospital (TAH) and National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) have dedicated International Centers.
